High School Health Research Bursary Award Student – 2017

The McMaster Autism Research Team (MacART) has had wonderful experiences with the HHS High School Research Bursary Program, where youth become part of a research team and have the opportunity to conduct basic or clinical research activities within one of Hamilton’s internationally renowned research programs. Our participants in 2015 and 2016 made wonderful impressions – so much so that they have come back and continued to volunteer their time with us! – and 2017’s student was no differnet.

Ahsas Nagee worked with MacART, helping to computerize study surveys, produce a codebook, and conduct a literature review for the Pediatric Autism Research Cohort (PARC) Project, which aims to build a standardized research protocol that caters to the needs of families dealing with autism.  Ahsas also worked with the WHO’s International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) model to evaluate the measures used in the PARC Project. He learned extensively about research not only in neurodevelopmental disorders, but the state of scientific research in general while also gaining invaluable skills in the field.  Watch this brief video to learn about his experience with us!
